Fun with Beans

Who knew beans could hold a childs attention for so long. I have been organizing, cleaning, rearranging....more or less nesting lately.
I was rearranging the cupboard with our dried beans and Everest asked about them. I saw an activity growing beans in Family Fun Magaizine (and on my friend Melanie's blog). We decided to give it a try.

Everest loves to cut paper so this part was fun for him.
We used kidney beans and put old socks in the middle of the container, we got them damp every other day.

This was after a few days. With in 10 days we had full bean plants with flowers starting. The boys checked them a couple times a day because they grew and changed. I didn't get any good pictures of the full grown plants, but I think we will do this again.

I came across some dried soup beans, and decided to let the kids have some fun with them. They play with them every few days and have a great time. Each time, they do something different; fill up small trucks, put them into small containers, make piles and categories, and Everest has been using the beans to write his letters or draw a picture.

Leaf adding more beans to his tray.

Everest was separating the beans by type.
The beans are stored in a canning jar with our craft supplies. Every time the boys see them, they ask to play with them.
